How I lost 40 pounds and kept it off for 10 years Tip #1 – Sugar and Alternatives

How I lost 40 pounds and kept it off for 10 years Tip #1 – Sugar and Alternatives

Since I created SimplyLanna website a couple of years ago, I have been getting a lot of questions from people all over the world asking me for weight loss tips. All that healthy eating is great, but most of us just want to lose that extra fat and look amazing (again !). I get it. Because I was once an over-weight teenager.  It was in the 90’s when everyone was pretty slim, and few people could understand my problem. Without any help whatsoever, I struggled alone and hard to lose weight for 15 years, and made a lot of mistakes along the way.  I was often sick and depressed.  Really wish there was Internet or Youtube. At least I would know that I wasn’t alone. But I believe it all happened for a reason. After so many years of trial and error in making myself healthier and slimmer, I learned so much about food and nutrition, exercises and diet.  From herbs to superfoods, HIIT to cadio, juice fasting to vegan detox, even gadgets and apps.  I have tried a LOT. It took me a couple of years to lose weight finally the right way. Now I can share my tips and experience with you, so you don’t have to waste a decade of your life trying to figure it out for yourself. If you want to change something about yourself, a little or a lot, just do it. Watch the video below for Tip#1.  It’s about the Sugar. Review of Clean Lean Protein (vegan, pea protein) and Discount Code

Review of Clean Lean Protein (vegan, pea protein) and Discount Code

A few months ago I made a Youtube product review on “Vega One vs. Raw Meal”, and both have been my favorites vegan protein supplements for years.  You can watch the video here. As much as I love cooking whole foods, I absolutely love the convenience of protein powders for post-workout and while traveling.   Therefore, I am always looking for new, high quality vegan protein products to add to my list.  I came across Clean Lean Protein a couple of months ago, and was very impressed with the short and clean ingredient list. The company is called Nuzest. Although new in the US market, it’s big in Australia and New Zealand. Unlike the Raw Meal or Vega One, Clean Lean protein uses only one type of protein – golden pea protein isolate sourced from France. In fact, this product is manufactured in Belgium, and certified gluten free, GMO free.  Here are some of the things I really about Clean Lean protein.   1. Taste – It comes on four flavors – Natural (no flavoring just protein), Smooth Vanilla, Rich Chocolate, and Creamy Cappuccino. I have had the Smooth Vanilla ad Rich Chocolate so far, and I just can’t believe how good they taste. Most of the similar products I have tried in the past have too much artificial flavors, and they tend to have a funny aftertaste. But Clean Lean Proteins use natural vanilla powder, cocoa extract and/or coffee. There is no weird, artificial or chemical taste. The protein dissolves in water almost instantly without the need to stir or blend much at all. I have to say...

Shakeology (vegan) Meal Replacement vs. Vega One Shake

Shakeology (vegan) Meal Replacement vs. Vega One Shake

Have you ever wondered which one is better, Vega One shake or Shakeology? They are both pretty pricey and very high quality. I have use them both for a quite a while, and I will tell you what I think the differences are. First of all,  the cost difference. Vega one is about $2.7 per serving of 44 grams, Shakeology is $4/serving of 44 grams. So that means Shakelogy is about 1.5 times the price of Vega One, and Vega One is already quite a bit more expensive than most other plant-based meal replacement on the market. Does that mean Shakeology is higher quality than Vega One? Not necessarily in my opinion.  the ingredients are very similar. They both have brown rice protein, pea protein, savi seed protein, chlorella, maca, goji berry, acai, tons of super foods, etc. No major difference in terms of ingredients.  Both have 16 grams of proteins per serving, soy free, and no artificial sweetener. But Shakeology has 9 grams of sugar per serving, and Vega has only 1 gram of sugar per serving. That is a pretty big difference for people who don’t want extra sugar in their drinks. Now, I want to tell you about an experiement I did recently. I have been doing a kettle bell workout routine for 3 years. BTW,  I am a big fan of kettle bell workouts.  Every single time I do this routine, I get crazy sore in my legs, and it takes me 2 days to recover. A few week ago, I took shakeology after the kettle bell routine. Guess what, I was not sore the...
Save 100 Calories per Day

Save 100 Calories per Day

Reaching your ideal weight might seem like an insurmountable task, but if you break it down into smaller achievements, your goal weight becomes achievable. The best way to do this is through small improvements, including dietary changes. If you cut just a few calories each day, you barely notice a change and you do not feel deprived, but over time these calories add up. Aim to cut 100 calories from your diet each day. In just over a month, this small change equals the loss of one pound! Here are some simple ways I used in the past to cut 100 calories per day: Avoid sugary condiments. It might seem impossible for such a small amount of food to do much damage, but high sugar sauces such as barbecue and ketchup add hundreds of calories to every meal. Swap high-calorie condiments for low-calorie options such as mustard. Some mustard varieties even provide a boost for your metabolism. Socialize during lunch. When you eat in front of your computer you tend to eat more calories. Make a lunch date during the week with an office friend. Leave the building, walk to a nearby café or deli, and focus on your food while you eat. Not only do you burn calories by moving to and from your destination, you also tend to eat less. Snack wisely. Obviously fruits and vegetables are great choices, but they do not always satisfy those snack time cravings. Nuts in their shells are a great option for salty cravings because they are healthy and take longer to eat. You need to de-shell the nuts, which limits...
Vega One vs. Raw Meal

Vega One vs. Raw Meal

Vega One Meal replacement and Raw Meal by Garden of Life are two of my favorite plant-protein meal replacements. Vega One is designed by athlete Brendan Brazier.  Garden of Life is a US company out of FL. Both have been around a long time. Garden of life is one of the first companies that came out with raw, vegan supplements years ago. Both are superb quality product in my experience. Here is the comparison between the two, in terms of cost, taste, nutrition. I will give you my recommendation.   1. Cost. Because serving size is very different for every product, and honestly it is quite subjective for each individual. I usually compare cost per gram instead.  These products are almost always sold by weight anyway. Vega One costs me about $60 dollar for 22 servings, and 0.07 per gram. Raw Meal costs  $40/1.1 kg, 14 servings, at about 0.03 per gram.  Neither has fillers, so a gram should be a gram of core ingredients. Raw Meal is half of the price of Vega One per gram.   2. Taste : Vega One comes in natural, chocolate, vanilla, berry and vanilla chai flavors. All flavors except for the natural have added natural flavors and Stevia. If you don’t mind the added flavors, you will like the taste of Vega One better.  It dissolved in water pretty easily. Tastes pretty good for a supplement. Raw Meal comes in vanilla, chocolate and vanilla chai flavors.  The vanilla has no added flavors or sweeteners, although one might think it did based on the name. So that is a good choice for people...
